自1958年发展成为独立的纺织院校起，我校纺织学科和专业建设进入了新的发展时期。学校先辈历尽创校艰辛，五十余载耕桑耘梓，甘洒青春，勇往直前，励精图治，慨当以慷，开拓了学校各项事业蓬勃发展的春天，连起新世纪织锦辉煌。建校初期，正值国家工农业生产建设和人民生活遇到严重困难的时期。当时学校设有3个系共4个专业，在校本科生557人，房屋基建面积不足3万平方米。为了促进学校发展，一批创业先驱，在杂草丛生的荒地上挥汗如雨，并肩劳作，积极建设教学设施，先后从全国重点大学招聘教师来校任教。他们还深入到工厂，与工人和技术人员共同钻研，开展技术革新和专题研究，取得了大量科研成果，各项工作得到初步发展。

1967年天津市成为直辖市，河北省会迁离天津。1968年2月经纺织工业部批准，”河北纺织工学院“更名为”天津纺织工学院“。
At the beginning of its founding, the institute experienced the hardest time for industrial and agricultural construction and for the Chinese people. At that time, the institute covered 3 departments and 4 majors and had 557 registered undergraduates, and the total area of its houses and infrastructures was less than 30,000 square meters. To facilitate its development, a group of pioneers, dripping with sweat, worked hand in hand to construct teaching facilities on the barren land choked with weeds, and recruited teachers from key universities throughout China. Moreover, they visited factories to cooperate with workers and technicians in technical reforms and special researches and obtained numerous scientific achievements and preliminary progresses in many aspects.
